Brut

An EU-defined sugar category for sparkling wine. The full scale from driest is: Brut Nature, Extra Brut, Brut, Extra Dry, Dry (Sec), Demi-Sec, Doux.

In more detail

Note the trap: Extra Dry is sweeter than Brut, which catches out almost everyone. The terms are historical rather than descriptive.
